Let’s look at some facts. We have to eat everyday and as women entrepreneurs, we are almost always busy everyday. There are many ways to optimize time management, and one of my favorite is meal planning. We all know that eating at home is much better for us. What is missing is taking the time to plan meals. Meal planning can mean different things for people, but I will list a few reasons why it is a great idea.
Reason #1 – It saves time
Raise your hand if you have ever looked at the clock, seen 5 o’clock and everything you have is frozen? At that point you have a couple of options. Hope you have all ingredients you need for a meal and throw in the Instant pot, order out or scrounge in the pantry. Having to scramble and figure out what to eat last minute actually takes me more time than meal planning.
Reason #2 – It saves money
If you plan your menu, then you will have less take out nights. It is expensive to eat out and if you’re pressed for time and add delivery, it can be even more costly. In addition, when I menu plan, I look to see what is on sale and what meals I can make around those sales. It also forces me to be creative and not fall into the trap of making the same things over and over.
Reason #3 – It’s Healthier
Even though food from a restaurant may be tastier, it is usually processed and has more sodium than food made at home. Also, serving portions are so much bigger when ordered out. We may overeat and not be able to turn away the food served. At home, we normally make our plates according to what we can eat or what is reasonable to eat.
There are many ways to meal plan. The first step is to plan out the menu for the entire week and then grocery shop accordingly. Stick to the plan so that you stick to the budget. Then, depending on your lifestyle and what works for you, you can either cook all your meals on Sunday or cook them each night. Whatever it is you choose, stick with it. I get my family involved in the meal planning so that they don’t try to sweet talk me into ordering pizza on a Tuesday night.
