Do you manage your time or does your time manage you? This the question I ask entrepreneurs often. What you are actually doing with your time is just as important as how you manage our time. The time management tips below will help busy entrepreneurs like you manage and meet your daily goals. Be sure to visit my facebook page to get more daily tips, inspiration and humor.
Time Management Tip #1- Know your goals
It is important to understand what your goals are and why they are important to you. Why are you doing what you’re doing? What motivates you? What is your why? Figuring that out will keep you focused on the tasks that are tied back to your overall goals.
For me, helping other entrepreneurs create purposeful and intentional goals is a major why for me. My vision board is less about about things I want, but rather how I want to inspire others to achieve their goals. So that is how I choose to spend a majority of my work time, doing just that. What do you want to spend most of your time doing?
Time Management Tip #2 – Prioritize your day
Every night before you go to sleep, plan out the next day. I guarantee you will be more productive and motivated than ever before. Why? Because when you are prepared for the day, you won’t get up wondering, what’s first? Otherwise, you will instantly wake up and be “busy” doing things, but may not be actually productive.
If I have a super busy day ahead, I know that there will be no room for procrastination or dragging my feet. Doing this allows me to mentally prepare for my day before it actually arrives and I know it will help you too.
Time Management Tip #3- Set your timer
When I have a lot to do, the timer method works great for me and I know it can help you too. Have you ever had someone call you and say, “I’m in the neighborhood and thought I would stop by. See you in 30 minutes.” How fast do you straighten your house when you know someone will be there in a short time? Studies show that our minds work well in 20 minute blocks. So I challenge you to set your timer for 20 minutes and focus on one task. No email, phone or distractions, just straight task time.
